The Jewelry Making Process - Lost Wax Casting Method

As a woman who creates jewelry with a deep connection to meaning and spirituality, I find that the lost wax casting method is one of the most magical and transformative techniques in jewelry making. This method allows me to breathe life into my designs and create pieces that embody my intention and energy.

Lost wax casting is an ancient technique that has been used for thousands of years to create intricate metal objects. It is a multi-step process that involves creating a wax model of the desired piece, encasing it in a mold, melting away the wax, and filling the cavity with molten metal.

The first step in this process is creating the wax model. As an artist, this is where I have the most freedom to express my creativity and spirituality. I can carve intricate designs into the wax, imbuing it with my intention and energy.

Once the wax model is complete, it is time to create the mold. This is done by encasing the wax in a heat-resistant material such as plaster or ceramic, and then heating the mold to melt away the wax. This leaves behind an empty cavity in the shape of the original wax model.

This is where the magic happens. Molten metal is poured into the mold, filling the cavity and taking on the shape of the original wax model. As the metal cools and solidifies, it takes on the intention and energy imbued in the wax model.

The final step is to remove the metal piece from the mold and refine it through polishing and other finishing techniques. This is where I can add additional details and symbols that may not have been possible to carve directly into the wax.

For me, lost wax casting is a deeply spiritual and transformative process. It allows me to channel my creativity and intention into a physical object that can be worn and shared with others. Each piece carries a little piece of my heart and soul, and the energy that I infuse into the design is transferred to the wearer.

There is also a sense of surrender and letting go in the lost wax casting method. As I release the wax model into the mold, I let go of any attachment to the outcome and trust that the universe will bring forth the perfect final piece. It is a reminder to trust in the process of life and to have faith that everything will work out as it is meant to.

Lost wax casting is an ancient and transformative technique that allows me to create jewelry with deep spiritual meaning and intention. From carving the wax model to pouring the molten metal, every step of the process is infused with intention and energy. The final piece is a physical representation of my creativity, and a reminder to trust in the process of life.

With Love,
